China Education Television started broadcasting officially on October 1, 1986. It is one of the two major national television stations in China and the largest non-profit educational service platform in China. Guideline of the Reform and Development of the Cultural Sector during the 12th Five-year Plan has listed CETV as one of the ten key central media that are to receive major support from the government during the 12th Five-year Plan. For the 27 years since its inauguration, CETV has always based itself on the positioning as a non-profit educational television platform, and remained committed to serving the building of a learning society, serving the construction of human resource capacity, and serving the building of an education sector that people are satisfied with. CETV has spared no effort to build the world’s largest learning platform and to become an in-the-air classroom for students, a learning ground for teachers, a spiritual home for the mass, and an important front of public opinions for the Party and the government.
Currently, CETV has 5 television channels, including the Satellite Channel 1, Satellite Channel 2, Satellite In-the-Air Classroom Channel, and the Channel 3 for Beijing and the Professional Digital Early Education Channel targeted at children from 0-8 years old. In addition, CETV also owns China Education Network Television, China Education Mobile Phone Newspaper, guoshi.com, and CETV National satellite broadband transmission network.
CETV is not only an important channel for students and teachers in China’s education sector and people from all works of life to access public education information, but also an important window for China to know the world and the world to know China. Its international influence has been increasing with each passing day, and it has established partnerships with dozens of countries in Europe, Americas, Asia, and Africa.
